ViewBarry Plant Real Estate was established in 1979 when Barry Plant -- who is a director of the company today -- opened an office in Templestowe in Melbourne's east. In the following years Barry Plant Real Estate flourished in the eastern and south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. In July 1999, the 15 Barry Plant offices merged with EJ Doherty Real Estate to form Barry Plant Doherty. EJ Doherty opened its doors in a small office in Coburg on 1st July 1958 and at the time of the merger with Barry Plant it had 16 offices located throughout the north and north-western suburbs. The merging of the two companies, both of whom had earned enviable reputations for consistently obtaining excellent results for their clients, meant that the new real estate group -- Barry Plant Doherty -- covered a great deal of metropolitan Melbourne. Between July 1999 and December 2005, the group grew to 60 offices (including a specialised Commercial and Industrial office) and in early 2006 dropped "Doherty" from its name to once again become Barry Plant Real Estate. Early 2006 also saw the beginning of the group's expansion into the regional areas of Victoria and 2008 saw the first office established outside Victoria -- on the Gold Coast. As of January 2009, the group has 76 offices operating under the Barry Plant brand.
